Our Projects
CVYC is all about creating positive change in Victoria. Here are some of the projects we have worked on in the past, or are currently working on!
Current Projects

Dementia Research Project
We are proud to share that one of our council member: Crystal is actively participating in a dementia research project in collaboration with Carolyn Bradley. This important initiative aims to better understand the needs and experiences of those affected by dementia, and to help shape future support and services.
As part of the project, we invite you to take part in a short survey! Your input is valuable and will directly contribute to the research.

Notable Projects

Coldest Night Of The Year
In February of 2024, CVYC joined the event The Coldest Night of the Year to raise awareness and support for homelessness in our community. This year in 2025, we fundraised by doing a bake sale and garage sale. While also braving the crisp cold air for a walk! This event not only helped raise essential funds for those in need, but also encouraged us to continue to spread awareness as we only experienced a small fraction of the harsh conditions faced by homeless individuals in our community during winter.

Food Drive
CVYC worked on hosting a food drive to address the issues of high food waste, the lack of culturally food options in grocery stores, and rising food prices that makes it difficult for families to access essentials. We are proud to have been working with The Mustard Seed to help reach more individuals and families in need. All proceeds from the drive will go towards supporting the Young Moms Program, which empowers young mothers through resources. We have raised about 340 in cash and over 20+ donations of non-perishables and hygiene items, Thank you!

Mural
The mural project began in March 2024 as a combination of two ideas: one of our members wanted to create a public artwork, and another wanted to share a message. The resulting idea was a mural about how the policies created today will be the ones impacting the youth in 50 years, and how kids should be more involved in the decision-making process. The mural is to be created at Quadra Village Community Center and currently in progress. We are expected to be completed on April 15th 2025. Special thanks to RBC Foundation, BC Transit, and UWSVI for making this project possible.

The Humanitarian Campaign
This presentation, designed for students aged 14-18, will explore pressing topics such as climate change, the Ukraine-Russia war, and the Israel-Gaza conflict. Through real-world examples and expert-reviewed content, we aim to inspire young people to take action and make a difference. Don't miss this opportunity to learn, discuss, and become part of the change! We are also designing small kits dedicated for the patients in the hospitals we will be visiting.

Open Mic Night
For the upcoming holidays and cold months in 2024, CVYC organized a open mic night as part of our ongoing effort to raise awareness about mental health. This fundraiser was hosted on December 19 at 'The Mint Restaurant.' Whether it was through poetry's, songs, or stories it was a night full of warmth and a reminder that you aren't alone. All proceeds were donated to the Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria.

Merchandise For Earth Day
CVYC worked on creating a T-shirt to celebrate Earth Day 2025. Our merchandise aims to promote sustainability while also raising awareness about the importance of protecting the earth. The design highlights the urgent need to address climate change, before we 'Bite Off More Than We Can Save.' We have raised $310! All proceeds will go towards Surfriders for their work protecting local oceans and coastlines.

Youth Directory
CVYC is currently working on a Youth Directory! A Youth Directory is a place, usually a document, where youth can find all sorts of resources. The resources range from local recreation programs to events, to mental health hotlines. Once completed, the Youth Directory will be posted in all high schools and middle schools in the Greater Victoria region.

Topaz Park
In October 2023, CVYC worked directly with the City of Victoria to provide input for redesigning Topaz Park. It was a very productive session where we threw ideas about the types of seating areas, accessibility, and what kind of activities kids would find at the park. The park is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2025!

Global Activators
Jeffery Gibbs, founder of Global Activators, traveled from Vancouver to speak with CVYC about some projects on the environment and how we can play a role with protecting the life on earth. His story was truly inspiring, as he shared with us his passion for sustainability and the urgent call of action to preserve the life we have on earth. His visit continued to motivated us to continue our environmental activism.

Beach Clean Up
In April of 2024, as part of our commitment of protecting the environment and in celebration of Earth Day, CVYC took the initiative by organizing a cleanup throughout beaches and parks such as Clover Point Park & Cadboro-Gyro Park. This event not only helped preserve the environment, but was also a way for us to connect with our community, and creating a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Shell Marie Rest Home
During the cold of the winter months, CVYC helped spread some cheer by making cards and spending time with the members of Shell Marie rest home! We raised $125 in a bake sale for the gifts we gave them for Christmas. CVYC was happy to make the holiday season more special.
